Yes Taiwan is a professional online Chinese learning platform, and each of our teachers is a professional Chinese teacher in the Taiwan Chinese Language Centers. According to the needs of our students, we customize our curriculum and learning plans to best suit each student’s needs. We sincerely hope to contribute to the teaching of Chinese and help the Chinese learners all over the world.

We value each student’s personal characteristics, learning goals and learning habits, and each teacher on our team can tailor the curriculum and learning plan to suit each student’s needs in a way that no other amateur teacher can. In order to help you learn Chinese well, our professional teachers take the student as the starting point and work with you to determine the most suitable curriculum and learning style for you. We are not like the usual teaching platforms that use non-professional native speakers, cheap courses, and endless discounts to earn business profits, but we are “real teachers” with a passion for teaching and a sincere desire to contribute to the teaching of Chinese and to students’ learning.

If you’re not sure how to begin, please visit our How-to-start page. Also note that Yes Taiwan is a 1-on-1 Chinese online lesson platform, so please do not invite family members or acquaintances to join you for your scheduled 1-on-1 lessons.

Yes, we have teachers who specialize in teaching Chinese to children. Please check out our “for kids page”, book a lesson, and then discuss the lesson plan with the teacher.

Please prepare the following three items.

①Skype account (free)

②An electronic device that can use Skype (like a PC, tablet, smartphone, etc.)

③An internet connection

For the first lesson, you’ll need to connect with your teacher using Skype. Starting all of our students off with Skype allows us to run a fairly unified scheduling system, and makes both contacting students and managing classes easier. To begin, add the teacher’s Skype account to your contacts list after you book your first lesson, and discuss details of the upcoming lesson with your teacher via text. If you’d like to use other communication software in the future, please refer to your teacher’s website profile to find out what software they’re comfortable using other than Skype, and then discuss your preferences with your teacher over Skype.

Please work with your instructor to determine the most appropriate learning materials for you. The materials should reflect your personal language goals, as well as your current level of Chinese. We don’t provide any specific materials, but we do have suggested study materials for you to consider purchasing.

Some users have reported cases where their registration email for Yes Taiwan arrives in their junk folder, so please check there in case you don’t see it in your standard inbox. Also, if you register your account in the middle of the night (Taipei time, or GMT +8), you may receive your email several hours later.

You can make changes to your profile on the member’s My Page after logging in.

Yes Taiwan uses a point system. You can purchase points by going to the point purchase page while logged in after registering as a free member. Points are generally purchased via PayPal, unless you have a Taiwanese bank account and prefer wire transfers. After paying with PayPal, the points you purchased will be reflected on the member’s My Page, which you can then use to reserve your lessons.

Errors seem to happen most often when users residing in Taiwan use PayPal to pay for points. If you have a bank account in Taiwan, you can also consider doing a bank transfer. Please let us know on our contact us page if you prefer or need to transfer money directly from your Taiwanese bank account.

We also accept PayPal international bank transfers. If you’re unsure how this works and want guidance, please reach out on our contact us page.

You can enter the address and phone number of your parent(s) or legal guardian(s).

We’re happy to issue you a Taiwanese electronic receipt (電子統一發票). Please contact us if you would like a receipt for any reason.

Yes, it’s possible to issue you an invoice for you points purchases. Contact us with your request and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Your points are visible on your My Page.

If you’d like a refund equal to your remaining points, please contact us. We’ll then refund you the total amount after deducting the PayPal transfer fee.

The points of Yes Taiwan do not have an expiration date, so please feel free to purchase and use your points to take classes. However, please notice the cancellation policy(FAQ”Can I cancel the lesson?”) and the refund policy(FAQ”If I stop taking lessons with teachers at Yes Taiwan, will the money I spent on points be refunded?”).

Unfortunately we don’t provide free trial lessons at Yes Taiwan. The teachers at Yes Taiwan are all qualified professionals, and even your first consultation is a professional service we provide only to our paying members. If you want to learn Chinese quickly and pick up tips and learning styles from proven language experts, our team of veteran Chinese-language instructors is ready to help you get started.

All of our teachers currently teach courses at a world-renowned Chinese language school based in Taiwan. Each teacher is formally certified and has a Master’s degree in Chinese language teaching, with an average of 10+ years of teaching experience. The teachers you get to work with on this platform are the best teachers you’ll find in the Taiwanese online teaching community. We guarantee that our standards for excellence, collective years of professional language instruction, and passion for teaching make our lessons some of the best and most effective you’ll find anywhere on the internet. Very few people in the world understand Chinese learners better than we do, and even fewer can teach them better than we can.

Yes, when you see time listed on our platform or website, you’ll see it display in Taiwan standard time (GMT+8). Once you’ve joined as a member, you can switch to your preferred time zone (you can check here). Are you ready to sign up?

In rare cases, you may not receive a notification email due to a network error. If you think your reservation or cancelation email never made it to your inbox, please check such statuses on your My Page.

You can make a reservation no shorter than 3 hours in advanceof when you want to book it (assuming your times also align with those of your preferred teacher). For instance, if you want to reserve a 15:00 lesson on January 20, the latest you can reserve your time slot is 12:00 on January 20.

Yes, you can cancel your lesson if it’s 3 or more hours before the lesson starts.

Assuming you still have enough time, you can cancel your reservation from the reservation notification email or My Page, and your points will be returned after the cancelation is processed. No cancelations or point refunds are given to members who cancel with less than 3 hours to go prior to the lesson, so if you need to cancel please do so as soon as possible.

If the teacher for whatever reason or emergency didn’t attend your scheduled lesson, please contact us. We will refund your points as soon as possible in such a case.

Unfortunately, we don’t offer makeup lessons for missed classes. However, if the class was missed due to an issue on our side (such as the teacher being absent without notice), your points will be refunded.

If you have a favorite teacher, please contact us. We will talk with the teacher and see if it’s possible for you to work with them on a regular basis.

Yes, it’s possible to have lessons that don’t involve formal coursework, and instead primarily involve chatting in Chinese together with your teacher. If you’d prefer to have lessons that are focused on conversation and nothing else, please contact your teacher via Skype and let them know before the lesson.

Hanyu-Pinyin is the standard for teaching international students at the Language Center in Taiwan, so we generally focus on this system when working with students online. However, if you often communicate with Taiwanese friends or relatives or live in Taiwan and prefer Bopomofo, all of our teachers are comfortable with this pronunciation system as well.

If you want to delete your membership information, please contact us. We will delete it as soon as possible.

Although there are differences in pronunciation and vocabulary depending on the region, they are basically the same language. If you speak Chinese from either region, you’ll be able to verbally communicate with Chinese speakers from the other region as well. However, it’d be more difficult to communicate across these two regions with writing, because Taiwan uses traditional Chinese characters (which involve many strokes and are often considered more complex), and China uses simplified Chinese characters (which involve fewer strokes, making them often easier to write). Note that it’s usually easier for people who have learned Traditional Chinese to learn Simplified Chinese, and with a little practice can understand both writing systems. If you want to communicate with Taiwanese people, you should learn Taiwanese Chinese. Taiwanese Chinese has an accent that’s closer to those heard in southern China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, etc., and sounds a bit different than what you’d hear in the north of China (like in Beijing).
